Ben killed it, but it was a really disappointing final run for the top 4 riders as their qualifying score counted, so Ben had already won it before his final run, meaning that he didn't need to try/could have rolled the whole thing and still win. Three of the final four came off/bailed out before getting through the last three doubles so there was no 'grand finale' that I was kinda hoping. Not too sure how they normally score this kinda thing but thought it could have been done better in my opinion. Other than that, great course with some crazy stuff being thrown down, all for five queenheads. Can't complain!
I am currently sobbing into my keyboard after watching that video.
Apologies Fraser, I am unaccustomed to tilt-shift lens technology and what it can/cannot achieve. My somewhat limited knowledge of photography has always seen pictures with a traditional 'focal plane' (or whatever the proper term for it is) where the focal depth is achieved horizontally across the picture. I thought heavy after-processing had taken place and I was wrong - my bad.
I do think it achieves a very strong effect, and with such an expensive bit of kit I'd be very tempted to get the most out of my money and use it a lot, but in my opinion (and this is only my opinion and certainly not the rest of pinkbike's), some photos would have been better without (eg some of the 'lifestyle' shots such as the guys in front of the Giant van and some of the other similar pictures where the focal blur stops you from appreciating other things that are happening in the frame)
Anyway, my original criticism was rather basic and unhelpful. Hopefully I have substantiated myself a little better now.
As a DH rider and non-BMXer I attended this and still thoroughly enjoyed the event. The jumps are impressive, the tricks even more so. I don't get the animosity between different types of riders. It makes no sense, as long as everyone is out having a good time surely we can appreciate the different disciplines, what their limitations are and what can be achieved.
Peace and Love
agreed, the composition and angles are all really good but so many were spoiled by using that dodgy soft focus effect too...
Agreed. A Friday treat that even managed to top today's POD.
